Amazing Eileen has the drive to impress at wheel aged 105
ONE of Britain’s oldest motorists has passed a driving assessment with ease.
Eileen Ash, who is 105 years old, has never taken an official test as when they were introduced in the 1930s she already had a licence.
Her ability was evaluated by a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents examiner who said it was “an absolute pleasure” to be driven by her. Eileen said: “I’m delighted. I knew it though [that I’d passed]. I quite enjoyed it.” Her 30-minute assessment in her home city of Norwich was part of ITV documentary series 100 Year Old Driving School. The former England women’s cricketer is one of eight people in the country aged 105 or over who has a licence. From the age of 70 motorists must apply periodically to renew their licence but there is no age at which people must stop driving.
