C4, 8pm You can’t help but be charmed by bionic vet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick.

He’s a pioneering surgeon, the Doctor Dolittle of vets, and the authority on how to have a wonderful bedside manner.

A new run of episodes starts tonight with a dramatic emergency when a two-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier dog called Lulu is hit by a car travelling at 40mph.

“I heard an awful noise and I just knew she’d been hit,” says owner Zoe.

She and her teenage son Jack turn

DRAMA Lulu with her owners pale as Noel explains the extent of Lulu’s injuries.

She has a horrendous pelvic fracture and Noel says one part of the bone has “catastrophically exploded” into 25 pieces. “Stay brave,” he tells them as he puts forward the option of the unmentionable – euthanasia.

Of course we are then left hanging throughout the episode as we wait to see what fate awaits poor Lulu.

Elsewhere, a giant schnauzer called Florence has lost her tail wag due to a sore knee. And a pointy-eared Jack Russell called Muffin has a mysterious problem with her back legs.
