NO GLORY ..NO KANE

Former Spurs boss Sherwood says Harry could grow restless without winning titles

- BY DARREN LEWIS

TIM SHERWOOD has warned Tottenham: Win a title or lose Harry Kane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s predecessor fears the England striker could grow restless with the north Londoners and seek to fulfil his ambitions elsewhere.

Sherwood, who handed Kane his first Premier League start in 2014, said: “There’s only so much loyalty someone can show.

“The only way they can keep him is to win something this year. That something might not be the Carabao Cup, it might have to be the league or the FA Cup.”

Spurs, last season’s Premier League runners-up, are currently fifth – five points off joint-leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.

Kane has been the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner for the last two seasons.

He has netted more than 20 top-flight goals in each of his last three seasons and has already scored six times for club and country during the current campaign.

Kane, 24, signed a new deal last December, worth £90,000 a week – plus up to £30,000 in bonuses – until the summer of 2022.

The Ching ford-born marksman has always insisted he is living the dream at his boyhood club.

But Sherwood, who pushed for his promotion from Tottenham’s academy, fears he could now outgrow the north London side.

He added: “Tottenham have been a great club for Harry and he’s been paying them back ten-fold.

“He’s been outstanding over the last couple of seasons, he grew up a stone’s throw from the ground and the kid loves the club.

“But that only lasts a certain amount of time. Then he starts seeing the pound signs and the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or, dare I say it, Manchester United – and then his head gets turned.”

Legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes Kane has already challenged the club to match his ambition – by setting his own personal targets so high.

Wright said: “What they don’t want to do is get Kane into a position where he’s got no choice but to kick on, simply because that’s what he wants to do.

“We’ve seen him do interviews where he says he wants to play in the Champions League regularly and be winning it, and to win the Ballon d’Or. He’s a very ambitious player.”
