Sign of the Irons’ times

SLAVEN BILIC is finding it “impossible” to pair strikers Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez.

To accommodate both, Hernandez has been shunted to the left wing without much success. There is a pattern starting to emerge here. In January, West Ham paid £10.2million to bring Robert Snodgrass in as Dmitri Payet’s replacement, but no one told the former Hull man that.

Snodgrass asked if he could play his natural position on the right or as a second striker, but was told he had been bought to play on the left and that was were he was sticking.

The result was, from scoring nine goals before January at Hull, he failed to score for West Ham and was delighted to go on loan to Aston Villa.

“To get the best out of any player, you need to play them in their right position” was his parting shot to Bilic.

It makes you wonder who is really signing West Ham’s players – Bilic or the man who fancies himself as the director of football, David Sullivan?
