Doc Martian
Sci-fi Sigourney joins Clunes in ITV drama
MARTIN Clunes has revealed Alien star Sigourney Weaver landed a big role in the new series of Doc Martin after impressing during her previous cameo.
The actress, 67, is a big fan of the ITV drama and appeared in 2015 as Beth Traywick, an American visiting the Cornish seaside town of Portwenn.
Martin, who plays Dr Martin Ellingham, said: “She had a tiny part, and she has got a massive part this time. We liked her so much we asked her back.
“I met her on the Jonathan Ross Show and she said she’d seen every single episode – it’s her favourite show and please could she do one. “She plays an American tourist trying to retrace her English heritage but she develops a medical condition and then she has a fight with the chemist. “I am a huge fan of hers. Who isn’t?” Martin, 55, said the Hollywood star, best known for playing heroine Ellen Ripley in the Alien sci-fi horror films, “really cares about delivering”.
He added: “We’re not a big Hollywood outfit, we are a tiny little thing, and she’s great. She stayed with us in the cottage we rent down there and we just laughed, like we always do.”
Martin also ruled out a return of 90s sitcom Men Behaving Badly, alongside co-star Neil Morrissey. He said: “I think we’d be a bit seedy in our old age.”
The first episode of Doc Martin aired on ITV on Wednesday night.
