Digital today, disc Monday Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron star as buff and bromantic crime-solving lifeguards, but they struggle to save this pumped-up big-screen reboot of the 1990s TV show.

Taking £134million at the global box office would have been a decent result if the film hadn’t cost £45m, which is too expensive for a comedy.

If nothing else, it suggests gross-out gags are a poor substitute for a smart script. Though sadly wasted, co-stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera suggest they’re more than a match for the boys.
