Slade: I’m back near my best
HENRY SLADE will be named in Eddie Jones’ latest England squad today – having finally got over his horror leg break.
The Exeter star needed a plate and wiring inserted in his leg to repair the break and ankle dislocation he suffered against Wasps 22 months ago.
While he returned to action later that season he revealed yesterday that only now does he feel like the player England first capped two years ago.
“It has taken until now to get over the injury mentally,” said Slade, who nonetheless impressed in England’s summer series win over Argentina.
“Only this season am I playing without strapping on my leg. It’s taken a lot longer than I thought.”
Coincidentally, Wasps are champions Exeter’s opponents on Sunday.
By then Slade will be back in the Red Rose fold, with Jones saying he is now only considering him as an outside-centre.
His rivals for the jersey are Jonathan Joseph and Elliot Daly. All three will be in Oxford for an England training camp next week.
