Curran is told to join the queue

- BY DEAN WILSON

TOM CURRAN has been told not to expect a one-day debut against the West Indies as England put their faith in David Willey to grab early wickets.

Unlike in the T20 matches this summer – where young players were given game time – ODI caps will only be handed out if it improves the team.

There might be 18 months to go until the next World Cup, but after England’s second Royal London one-day match was washed out in Nottingham, Morgan made it clear where his priorities lie.

“There are no plans to rest players in the last three games,” said Morgan.

“It is difficult to say that Tom will get a game. We will play our best team to win game by game, and giving people a game to develop the squad is not a priority.

“One way of getting Tom involved has been in the T20 side and that might continue this winter.

“One of the areas we have struggled in is taking early wickets. Losing Chris Woakes in the first game was a blow, so having a fully-fit and firing David Willey, whose strength is taking wickets with the new ball, is an area we can work on in this series.”
