FA deserve Gareth fury

AMONG the ramifications of the FA’s shockingly inept handling of the Mark Sampson saga is the fact they hung another England manager out to dry. They have made Gareth Southgate look silly. This was the reference Southgate gave Sampson (left) last month: “Mark, in my view, is an excellent character, so I have no hesitation in saying that.” Presumably, had he known a report lay on file that would get Sampson the sack pretty soon, Southgate might have had a little more hesitation. The England manager should be among those furious with chief executive Martin Glenn and chairman Greg Clarke. As more details of this tawdry affair leak out, it is hard to see how Glenn and Clarke can stay in their roles.
