“My favourite goal for Villa was against Spurs. We drew 1-1, I’ll always remember that, curled it with my right foot.”

“Steven Gerrard. Such a good player. Defensively and attacking – he had all the tools.”

“I enjoyed linking up with David Silva at Man City”

“I don’t enjoy seeing a picture of me with Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer, people always have lots to say about it.”

Hardest ground to visit?

“Everton. It was nice to be on the other side of it when I joined. They have demanding fans who are close to the pitch.”

Biggest rollocking?

“I have not had many but Martin O’Neill dished me out a few even when I was captain.”

Favourite game? Man United 1-6 Man City, October 2011
