‘THE AMAZON BOMBER’

Parsons Green accused ‘built device using ingredients he bought online’

THE teenager accused of the Parsons Green bomb allegedly bought the ingredients off Amazon.

Ahmed Hassan, 18, is said to have used an explosive called “Mother of Satan”.

Prosecutor Lee Ingham told a court yesterday: “All the ingredients had been purchased online.”

THE Parson Green bomb was packed full of items intended to cause maximum destruction and death, a court heard yesterday.

And the 18-year-old Iraqi refugee accused of planting it on a busy Tube train is believed to have bought ingredients for the device from Amazon.

They included several hundred grams of the explosive TATP, known as “Mother of Satan”.

Ahmed Hassan appeared at Westminster magistrates court charged with the attempted murder of passengers, including children, on the District Line in West London. Prosecutor Lee Ingham said: “The detonation of even gram quantities of TATP has the potential to cause serious injury to people and damage to property. “All the key ingredients needed for TATP had been purchased online, including on Amazon.” Mr Ingham told how the device, which failed to detonate, contained “knives, screws, glass and similar items” intended to “increase the likelihood and severity of death”. Long-haired Hassan wore a grey prison tracksuit when he appeared in the dock. He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth and remained expressionless throughout. Hassan is accused of making the bomb at the home he shared with foster parents Penelope and Ronald Jones in Sunbury, Surrey. The bomb was hidden in a Lidl bag and covered by a pair of trousers. Mr Ingham said: “There is extensive CCTV coverage before and after an explosive device went off.”

Police believe the accused carried it from his house to the train and then got off at Putney Bridge station without it. The next day the suspect was arrested at Dover in Kent after officers had been sent an image from CCTV of him.

Hassan was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey next month.

One woman is in hospital with “life changing injuries” after last week’s bomb. Another 29 people were treated.
