Rainbow cancer-busters
A ‘RAINBOW diet’ of purple potatoes, broccoli and red grapes can prevent bowel cancer, according to research.
They contain compounds that stop inflammation and make cancer cells selfdestruct. A study on pigs at Pennsylvania State University in the US found purple potatoes suppressed the spread of colon tumours. Project leader Prof Jairam Vanamala said: “Plant-based diets can also potentially prevent other illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.”
