HAYDOCK GOING FOR GOLD
THE William Hill Ayr Gold Cup is set to be run at Haydock next Saturday after being lost to waterlogging yesterday.
BHA race planners are in talks with the big-race sponsors after all three days of the prestigious meeting fell victim to the weather.
A false patch of ground in the Ayr straight makes a switch of venue inevitable, and BHA chairman Nick Rust said last night: “Discussions are taking place over staging the race in the next week to 10 days.
“The key is whether the sponsors are prepared to support the revised race — and Haydock next Saturday is a possibility.”
Despite the washout on Scotland’s west coast, armchair viewers will not lose out — three races from Newmarket will be live on ITV4 this afternoon, in addition to four, including the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, from Newbury.
