End of queues with shopping checkout app
A MOBILE phone app that lets supermarket shoppers scan and pay for items as they go could spell the end of the checkout queue.
Sainsbury’s tested a prototype of the app this month at their shop in Euston station, London.
Natalie Dunn, of the chain, said they did the test there as customers are often in a rush and want to get out as fast as possible.
She added: “We are always looking for ways to help our customers live well – and saving time is one way we can do so.”
But David Williams, of union Usdaw, warned: “Many customers value personal interaction they receive from shop workers. Reduced staffing can cause frustration and generally shop workers bear the brunt of any abuse.”
