HUGHTON’S LABOUR ALREADY PAYING OFF

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

WRITTEN off at the start of the campaign and seen as too nice to do the job.

In the week that Jeremy Corbyn and his Labour Party are in Brighton, Chris Hughton also continues to confound expectations at the top of the game.

It has been a good 2017 so far for both of them. But there is still a long way to go.

Hughton (right) suffered rough justice when he was fired at Newcastle and his former club did the double over Brighton in the Championship last season.

But the Seagulls boss was too much of a gent to gloat at a first win over Toon at his seventh attempt, since his sacking in December 2010. “When I was asked about winning against them, (I said) I am happy we have got the win, whoever it is against,” he claimed. Brighton pass the ball about nicely and, in Anthony Knockaert, have another right-winger who refuses to stick to his position. Despite Tomer Hemed scoring again and Pascal Gross looking a steal at £3million, the Seagulls will need to scrap and scavenge for every goal. But like with the Labour Party down the road, there is hope. Corbyn says he will need 10 years to sort out Britain once he gets elected. Hughton is on his way and has 32 more games to achieve his goal.
