Bold Blades Steel the spoils

- BY SIMON BIRD

CHRIS WILDER described the Blades’ Steel City derby win as the “proudest moment” of his career.

The United boss said it “doesn’t get any better” than sticking four goals past fierce rivals Wednesday.

The Blades (scorer Mark Duffy, right) rose to fourth spot

Championship with the win after Leon Clarke’s double, plus goals from John Fleck and Duffy, clinched the points.

Wednesday had fought back from two down with goals from Gary Hooper and Lucas Joao.

Wilder said: “B ***** ks? Yes, they showed them. That has been ingrained in our team.

“That wasn’t just about three points. This was everything today for both clubs. A fantastic atmosphere, a special experience, and a wonderful performance from us in all aspects.

“We were under the cosh when they equalised but, to come out of it, when this place was rocking, and win it comfortably, shows a lot about this group.

“Proudest moment of my career? Yes, I’d say so. Last time I was here, I witnessed them beat us. To get the result, we have had to swallow a lot over the last six years.

“We are not the best team in the division. We beat an outstanding team and it is a great day for us. We are a work in progress but this is a high for the club.”

Wilder said two-goal striker Clarke had “bullied” the Owls’ centrehalves, and added: “We’ve given the supporters something back.”
