Chance to donate life

-

IT is a national scandal that hundreds of Britons whose lives could be saved every year by organ transplants are abandoned on “death row.”

We urge Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to change donor laws in England when he meets campaigning MP Geoffrey Robinson tomorrow to discuss copying Wales and Scotland by replacing the opt-in system with opt-out.

And if Mr Hunt does not, we will lobby every MP in the UK to back Robinson’s Private Member’s Bill to Change the Law for Life.

Because the Daily Mirror will not be silent when far too many Britons are condemned to early graves for want of a transplant.

Mum Patricia Carroll spoke movingly at yesterday’s Mirror meeting at the Labour conference of how daughter Natalie, 38, died waiting for a new pancreas yet her heart valves gave the gift of life to a young girl.

Any single one of us could, however healthy now, need a transplant in the future – and we could be potential donors, too.
