Girl of 16 arrested after stabbing horror at school

-

A TEENAGE girl was held on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday after a school welfare officer was stabbed several times with a kitchen knife.

The devoted 61-year-old victim, who said her door was always open, was attacked just 10 minutes after school started.

Grandmother Joy Simon was beaten first, then slashed with a knife around 9am. It is believed she received wounds to her face needing stitches and also suffered a punctured lung.

She screamed: “Help me, help me. Get off me,” as the attacker struck.

Parents dropping their children off at Winterton Community Academy, Scunthorpe, heard the blood-curdling screams before a 16-year-old girl was restrained by school staff.

Humberside Police said the injured woman had sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and confirmed the arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.

Georgina Corney, 19, told how her mum Lisa Hall, 39, a cleaner at the school, heard the attack. “The cleaners went down to the office,” she said. “They were followed by PE staff who grabbed the girl until the emergency services arrived.

“Mum said the administration officer passed out before the ambulance arrived but came back round again.”
