Ta-ra Vera – the end of an era

Liz Dawn was more than just Vera Duckworth. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

And yet, for millions of us, she was Vera.

But now Vera’s gone and Jack’s gone, Hilda’s gone and Stan’s gone.

Those characters who brought comedy into our homes every Monday and Wednesday night (when it was just a Monday and Wednesday) were watched by millions. Now in the days of multichannels, streaming and YouTube clips we’ll never all know their like again.

And it seems very sad to me.
