Moaning Tory an insult to war dead

-

Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen is a disgrace. How can he claim to honour our war dead when he goes begging bowl in hand to a judge, claiming he can’t afford the expense of a £175 wreath, despite earning £80,000 a year as an MP (Mirror, Sept 25)?

Honouring our war dead should be the least respect we can show them, yet Mr Bridgen claimed it was a “work commitment”.

He should think of how his life would have been if he didn’t have to lay that wreath in an acknowledgement of gratitude to those who laid down their lives for our freedom.

Andrew Bridgen is so lucky to live a privileged life and he should give thanks for that. Ashley J Smith, March, Cambs Is there no end to the arrogance of these Tory MPs? I have family and friends who work in London because there’s no work in the Midlands and North for them and they have to pay their own travel and living costs. But Tory Andrew Bridgen, not satisfied with subsidised travel and meals paid for by the taxpayer, has the nerve to complain about paying for a Remembrance Day wreath. Maybe he thinks we should have a whip-round for him! Mick Streets Chesterfield, Derbys What a horror Andrew Bridgen is. A typical Tory MP who you only find out about in circumstances like this. Otherwise, they just keep quiet about their entitled lives and keep on raking in the money. I suggest, though, if buying Remembrance wreaths is getting too expensive, that he just buys one and takes it to all the services, collecting it for reuse at the end of each. I am sure people would understand. Janet Mather Manchester He’s on a salary of £80,000 a year, yet Tory MP Andrew Bridgen begrudges paying the meagre sum of £175 on Remembrance Sunday wreaths for fallen soldiers.

It’s obvious he can’t be bothered to honour Britain’s war dead, so why does he even bother attending?

I hope his constituents remember this come voting time at the next general election. Stephen Dixon, Redcar, Teesside Tory Andrew Bridgen’s gripe about have to pay £175 for a Remembrance Day wreath is an insult to all those brave heroes who sacrificed their lives for their country in the two world wars and every conflict since. These Tory MPs live on another planet to the rest of us. Perhaps he should try living on the minimum wage, then he’d really know what it’s like to be skint. D Coulton, Barnsley, South Yorks People buy poppy wreaths to honour our war dead. As a relative of someone who gave their life for this country, I say Andrew Bridgen can stick his poppies. I, for one, don’t want them. D Higgins, Liverpool I do hope Tory Andrew Bridgen’s constituents read your front page story. Maybe he won’t have an MP’s salary for very much longer! Sally Kendrick, via Facebook It is Uber’s own fault they have lost their licence in London.

When a company asks a driver to report crimes to them first, rather than the police, something is seriously wrong.

These people signing a petition claiming they need Uber to commute forget we have a firstrate public transport system here – everyone else can cycle or walk. Jeffrey Williams East London Reading your articles on the House of Lords, it got me wondering what the expenses are actually for.

Surely, they are for meals as much as anything else, so I do not see why they are also subsidised.

To me that’s having two bites at the same cherry – which should surely be of interest to the taxman. Brenda Tiley Luton, Beds
