Woolly on EU... but big on unity

THE gen­eral elec­tion has not just en­er­gised Jeremy Cor­byn, it has trans­formed him.

The ac­ci­den­tal leader has be­come an ac­com­plished one.

This was a speech of some­one com­fort­able with the mantle of lead­er­ship and com­fort­able in his be­liefs. He has no in­ten­tion of mov­ing the party to the cen­tre as he be­lieves the cen­tre is mov­ing to­wards his party.

He de­clared: “We are now the po­lit­i­cal main­stream.”

Yes, his pas­sage on Brexit was wool­lier than Boris John­son’s hair and there were few con­crete poli­cies. But the mild-man­nered rev­o­lu­tion­ary has uni­fied his party.

He has grown in stature and started to per­suade peo­ple that what was once seen as dan­ger­ously left wing is now “com­mon sense”.
