Woolly on EU... but big on unity

THE general election has not just energised Jeremy Corbyn, it has transforme­d him.

The accidental leader has become an accomplish­ed one.

This was a speech of someone comfortabl­e with the mantle of leadership and comfortabl­e in his beliefs. He has no intention of moving the party to the centre as he believes the centre is moving towards his party.

He declared: “We are now the political mainstream.”

Yes, his passage on Brexit was woollier than Boris Johnson’s hair and there were few concrete policies. But the mild-mannered revolution­ary has unified his party.

He has grown in stature and started to persuade people that what was once seen as dangerousl­y left wing is now “common sense”.
