VEEP STAR JULIA: I’VE GOT CANCER

- BY MATT ELEY mirrornews@mirror.co.uk

AWARD-winning comedy actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has revealed that she has breast cancer.

The US star of Veep and Seinfeld told fans on Twitter: “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today I’m the one.” She used the tweet to highlight the need for “universal health care” in America. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive family and friends and fantastic insurance through my union,” wrote Julia, 56. “The bad news is not all women are so lucky so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.” Julia, who has two children with actor Brad Hall, was diagnosed a day after winning a record sixth Emmy for her role as Vice-President – and later President – Selina Meyer. Show producers HBO said: “Our love and support go out to Julia and her family. “We have every confidence she will get through this and we look forward to her return to health and to the seventh and final season of Veep.” Fellow actress and cancer victim Christina Applegate, who had a double mastectomy in 2008, reacted to her pal’s news by tweeting, “Mama find me. Let’s talk if you want.” Julia has won 11 Emmys, eight for acting and three for producing.
