I apologise to that lady. I became a monster and I am totally ashamed PEDRO DIAS CARER WHO ATTACKED MARJORIE, 95

THE daughter of a blind woman aged 95 filmed being horrifically abused by two care home staff has blasted a judge for sparing the “evil” pair from prison.

Worried Lynne Nuttall installed a secret camera in mother Marjorie’s room after the dementia victim suffered unexplained injuries.

Film she has now released shows her mum being slapped, sworn at and threatened with death as the carers got her ready for bed. Pedro Dias and Piotre Ciecielowski are seen dumping her forcibly on her mattress.

When Marjorie complained, Portuguese national Dias, 21, threatened to “break every bone” in her body and kill her, Chester crown court heard.

He also slapped her in the face, making her yelp in pain. She is heard in the film repeatedly crying in distress and pleading for help.

Pole Ciecielowski, 26, failed to stop Dias or report his actions and branded the victim a “silly bitch”.

Both men admitted ill-treatment at Prestbury House care home in Macclesfield, Cheshire. Judge Simon Berkson, who saw the film in private, called their actions “cruel and anything but caring” – then gave each a suspended nine-month sentence.

Afterwards Lynne said: “So two big men treat a blind woman of 95 like that but walk free from court. What does the sentence say about how society cares for the elderly?”

She added: “I’d feared mum wasn’t getting proper care. She had bruises on her wrists and I felt my concerns were not being listened to.

“When I saw her being walloped in the film I cried out in horror and had to stop watching.”

Last night Dias said: “I want to apologise to that lady and her family. I am totally ashamed.

“That night I was a monster. There is no excuse for what I did and I will never forgive myself for it.

“I am relieved the judge saw that my actions then were not my normal character. People in my community don’t agree and I have been threatened in the street.”

Dias tried to pin some blame on “failings” by the care home, which strongly refuted his accusations.

And Lynne rejected his apology saying: “These two men are evil and a disgrace. They felt it was the home’s fault for not ‘training’ them.

“How much training do you need to know that hitting a defenceless old blind person is unacceptable?

“But I fear such incidents are now common. I released this film in the hope of a debate on an opt-out surveillance system in all care homes.”
