FLATULENT cattle create 8.4% more methane than previously thought, say climate change scientists.

This rise, plus other factors, sent global livestock methane emissions 11% higher in 2011, the Joint Global Change Research Institute in Maryland found. Emissions fell slightly in Europe.

Author Dr Julie Wolf said: “World livestock numbers are changing and breeding has resulted in larger animals with higher intakes of food.”
