More than a third of Brits admit they’d rather receive an alternative gift to a traditional engagement and wedding ring, according to a new poll.

The top alternatives were signet rings (22%), necklaces (10%) and bracelets (8%), although some confessed to preferring a holiday or home improvements.

In a further break with convention, only 40% of those who took part in the survey for jewellery insurer Protect Your Bubble, proposed to their partner with a ring they chose themselves.
