Euro snub for Theresa no mates...

-

THERESA May feels a Brexit chill from her EU counterparts as she poses for a “family” photo at a European summit.

The Prime Minister looked distinctly uncomfortable as she was relegated to the back row with the leaders of the smaller EU nations.

Mrs May, circled, was left peering

over the shoulder of critic Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Commission boss.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, meanwhile, beamed from the front row.

Mrs May had earlier been embarrassed after Mr Juncker said it would take a “miracle” to agree Brexit trade talks at an EU summit in October. Mrs May, who was in Tallinn, Estonia, for an EU security summit, was dealt the blow on the eve of the Tory party conference, where she faces an uphill battle to control MPs squabbling over Brexit.

She said there had been movement on issues such as citizens’ rights during the fourth round of Brexit talks, which concluded on Thursday.

She suffered a further setback yesterday as official figures showed the economy grew by a weaker rate than earlier reported in the second quarter.

The Office for National Statistics said while it continued to measure quarter-onquarter growth of 0.3% between April and June, the annual GDP growth rate was 1.5% after earlier estimating it at 1.7%. It and said it was the weakest annual growth performance since 2013.

Anti-Brexit Labour MP Chris Leslie said the Tories’ “chaotic negotiations” were “downgrading Britain’s economy”.
