Tortoise’s six mile love trip

A PET tortoise left home and travelled six miles to a zoo where a “sprightly” female had just moved in.

Freddie, 70, covered the distance in 24 hours at an average speed of 0.25mph.

He was discovered near Jersey Zoo before he got to meet 15-year-old Astrid and was reunited with owner Joanne Stanton.

“He’s a typical tortoise – slow,” said mum of three Joanne, of St Mary.

“Though he does pick up a bit of speed when he sees a dandelion.”
