Mum & kids left critical by blaze
A WOMAN and children aged six and six months were critically injured in a blaze at a flat yesterday.
Emergency crews raced to the scene at about 6am and neighbours said people were leaping from the windows of other flats as flames spread from the ground-floor home. The woman, in her 20s, is believed to be the children’s mother and all three were all in hospital last night.
A neighbour in Northwood, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, who did not want to be named, said: “We could smell the smoke and could tell that the blaze was going to spread.
“My son wanted to get on to the upper floors to save people there but the flames and the smoke were just too severe. He and some other people were stood outside catching people who were jumping from the first floor.”
Staffordshire Police said: “Fire investigators are now working to establish the cause.”
