HUGHTON’S LOOKING ON THE SUNNY SIDE DESPITE DEFEAT

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

CHRIS HUGHTON tried to take the positives from another away defeat for Brighton – but admitted his side had lacked concentration and poise in North London.

Last season’s Championship runners-up have scored one goal and picked up one point in their four Premier League matches away from the Amex Stadium.

Yesterday’s task was made even harder with Tomer Hemed, who scored the winner against Newcastle last week, suspended and Izzy Brown (second from top) pushed up front.

Brighton managed one shot on target with their 35 per cent possession and looked more dangerous when Glenn Murray (third from top with Shkodran Mustafi) and Anthony Knockaert (left) came on for the closing stages.

Hughton (top) said: “It was a spirited performance – I can’t accuse the lads of not giving everything.

“It is always going to be difficult here, levels of concentration have to be for 90 minutes.

“We probably need to make more of some of the good areas we got in when we broke. But there were more positives than negatives.”

Brighton started their first Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, and lost by the same score to Arsenal to have seven points from seven games.

“I don’t think you’re ever satisfied because there were a few games we could have got more,” Hughton added.

“We’re a new team in this division and learning.

“We’ve played Arsenal and Manchester City – and City have shown what they can do – and in both games we have not been out of sight.”
