PATIENT WINKS GETS THE NOD

- BY JOHN CROSS

HARRY WINKS has been called up to the senior England squad for the first time.

The 21-year-old midfielder (above) was drafted in after Manchester City’s Fabian Delph and Manchester United defender Phil Jones were ruled out by injury. They will also miss Sunday’s qualifier in Lithuania.

Winks’ Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane said: “Harry’s done great. He waited patiently for his chance. He just had to keep doing what he’s doing, keeping his head down.

“He had a great game in midweek in the Champions League, he had a great game on Saturday.

“He has to stay focused, not think about it too much, concentrate on his job, and what will happen will happen.

“On the ball, technically he’s fantastic. He reads the game very well.”
