Kate: I never fancied Leo
Titanic lovers just good shipmates
KATE Winslet has revealed that her on-screen chemistry with Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic never tipped over into real life.
She said they developed a lasting friendship during seven months of filming Jack and Rose’s love story on the doomed ship but “never fancied” him. Kate, 42 tomorrow, said: “We were both very young. Luckily we never fancied each other. I know that’s annoying to hear, sorry. We really never did.
“It did mean we were able to tease each other, which we still do.”
The mum-of-three said it was hard to believe the blockbuster is 20 years old in December. She told ITV’s Lorraine: “The lovely thing is my children and their friends say, ‘Oh, I love the bit in Titanic when you did…’ They’re reciting lines I’ve long forgotten.
“There’s another generation loving it for the first time. It’s like Mary Poppins, I like to think.”
She said she keeps her Oscar, for The Reader, in the loo after seeing Emma Thompson keeps hers there.
