Police in search for missing Corrie return to landfill site

- BY ANDY LINES Chief Reporter

POLICE are returning to a landfill site to search for missing Corrie McKeague.

The RAF gunner vanished in September 2016 and a five-month hunt at the tip was called off in July when officers found no evidence of a body.

But Suffolk Police said they had now reviewed all information and concluded their original search area was “still the location where there was the highest likelihood of finding Corrie”. It said a search of four to six weeks would concentrate on an area next to the site of the earlier search. Det Supt Katie Elliott said: “We have remained committed to following all reasonable lines of inquiry. We believe our decision to extend the area is the correct one.” Corrie, 23, based at RAF Honington, was last seen in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, after a night out and may have fallen asleep in a shop bin.
