Hotel orders families to pay carrier’s unpaid bills

-

A SPANISH hotel demanded thousands of pounds from British holidaymakers to cover Monarch’s unpaid bills, threatening to lock them out of their rooms if they failed to pay.

Lynsey Scott, 41, and husband Wayne, 44, were among those caught up in the drama at the Hotel Beatriz Costa and Spa in Lanzarote.

The couple were on a 10-day holiday with Wayne’s brother, Christopher Scott, and his wife Tina, and Lynsey’s sister Vikki Scorer and her husband Andrew.

Lynsey, of Doncaster, South Yorks, said: “It was the last night before we were due to leave and when we returned to our room there was a note under the door. We went down and the manager said we had to pay £1,300 for the stay as they hadn’t received the money from Monarch. They threatened to lock the door to our rooms and then, when it became a bit heated, they threatened to call the police.”

The three couples were asked to pay almost £4,000, but refused. Lynsey criticised the Civil Aviation Authority. She said: “There was no support from anyone from the CAA.”

The CAA said the Hotel Beatriz was an isolated case and it had organised for the bill to be paid. Lynsey and her group were due to fly back to Birmingham Airport last night.
