Mustard gas find puts 2 in hospital
TWO people were hospitalised and a woodland sealed off after the pair unearthed canisters containing mustard gas.
Thought to date from the Second World War, the containers were sent to the MoD’s Porton Down lab, in Wiltshire, for analysis.
Police now understand the contents to be mustard gas and it is believed the canisters have been in place since the site was an operational RAF base.
The pair were treated for burns and sent home.
The public are being warned to keep away from Roughton Woods, in Woodhall Spa, Lincs, while the site is investigated.
The site was formerly RAF Woodhall Spa. It opened in 1942, as a satellite of RAF Coningsby, and closed in the mid 1960s.
