‘Risks are rising, so Forces need more’

-

DEFENCE Secretary Sir Michael Fallon yesterday signalled Britain could boost its Armed Forces spending.

He called for extra cash so the military receives more than the NATO minimum of 2% of national wealth.

Critics previously blasted the Government for “cooking the books” over how the threshold is calculated.

But speaking at the Conservative Conference in Manchester, Sir Michael told Sky News: “The threats to our country are intensifying. The 2% is a minimum commitment by NATO members. We do need to be sure that we have the resources we need so we should aim to do better.”

Shadow Defence Secretary Nia Griffith said: “If Sir Michael is serious, he should give our Forces the pay rise they have been robbed of since 2010.”
