TOWERING INJUSTICE

-

# Councils applying for promised funding to install sprinkler systems in tower blocks have received requests for more details of the works planned, or no reply at all (Mirror, Sept 30).

What details do the Tories need? It seems they are stalling on the promise after Grenfell, while the repair cost for Parliament’s Elizabeth Tower is soaring before work has even started. Will anyone quibble about this increase? Marian Hernes North Cheam, London

# Where does Douglas J Wathen get his fanciful ideas that Labour will bankrupt the country (Madeuthink, Sept 29)? Does he forget that after the Second World War, when the country was broke, a Labour government borrowed to build houses, founded the NHS and introduced free education for all which created a prosperous economy?

Why is borrowing always seen as bad? Susan Harding Liverpool
