VIRGIL JAN DIJK
Dutch defender reveals he still hopes to force Liverpool move
VIRGIL VAN DIJK has warned Southampton he will launch a fresh fight to join Liverpool in January.
The £60million-rated Dutch defender, whose transfer request was rejected, said of his attempt to force a move to Anfield in the summer: “I have no regrets. “Maybe we can see what’s possible halfway through the season.” Van Dijk is back in the Saints squad after training alone in the summer. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had made the 26-yearold centre-back his top defensive target, refusing to
switch attention elsewhere when Southampton made it clear that they would not sell.
After being made to apologise for their conduct in their pursuit of Van Dijk, Klopp promised that Liverpool would not move again for him unless Saints decided they wanted to sell.
The Reds, however, have had a defensive nightmare since then. Now back in the fold at St Mary’s, Van Dijk says he remains committed to Saints...for now.
He told Fox Sports: “I wanted to make a step-up but Southampton did not want to sell me. I’m a professional and now I’ll give everything to the club.”
