Gareth delivers 3 Lions lift for Raheem

- BY JOHN CROSS

GARETH SOUTHGATE will give Raheem Sterling a pep talk to get his international career back on track.

Sterling (right, with Southgate) has been in electric form for Manchester City, but often struggles to recreate his club performances for England.

Three Lions boss Southgate rates

Sterling highly and is set to start him against Slovenia at Wembley, especially with Tottenham’s Dele Alli serving a one-game ban.

It could even see Sterling used in the No.10 role and Southgate believes he can be one of England’s key players at the World Cup finals next summer in Russia.

Sterling, 22, has scored six goals already for City this season and is a key part of their so-far unbeaten campaign.

But Sterling has struggled to reproduce that level of performance for England, being substituted at half-time in Malta then dropped for the next game with Slovakia.

Southgate has tried to lift him with public words of encouragement and is desperate to help his forward get the best out of himself for England.

Sterling is likely to play up front with Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford for England and, incredibly, the potentially exciting trio have been on the pitch together for just one minute so far.
