Tributes for policeman who died in M-way bridge plunge
GRIEVING family and colleagues have paid tribute to a policeman who fell to his death from a motorway bridge.
Dad-of-two PC Rick Hooley, 50, plunged 100ft from the viaduct.
His wife Hayley, 45, said in a statement: “We are absolutely heartbroken. He’ll be sorely missed as a husband and a dad.”
Mr Hooley, of Northwich, had worked with Cheshire Police for 25 years. Speaking previously of his role as a family liaison officer, he said: “I’d be lying if I said it didn’t affect me.” Deputy Chief Constable Darren Martland said he was a “dedicated member of the roads policing team.” Mr Hooley died last month at the Thelwall Viaduct, Warrington, on the M6. The force said: “It is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.” An inquest was opened on Monday.
