Matt: No regrets but Little Britain will never return
Matt Lucas has ruled out ever bringing back Little Britain because it would be seen as “callous” now.
The comedian, who is developing a new sketch show without David Walliams, says: “Comedy has changed.
“I can’t regret Little Britain as regrets would be unhelpful. If we played characters of other races now that would be insensitive. We were younger and less empathetic and there was not as much racial tension as there is now.
“We could not do the I’m A Lady sketch, left, now as we have a greater understanding of the challenges faced by transgender people.” And he said the Marjorie Dawes sketches would be seen as “fat shaming”, adding: “Some people would say it would be a callous thing to do. It wouldn’t be right to revisit.”
Talking at the how to: Academy in London about his new project, Matt says: “I have something in development, me playing different characters.
“I can’t talk too much about it. I would also like to write a stage musical. I’m going to have a go at that.”
