They think it’s all overweight

PLAYERS in a football league for overweight men have lost almost 50,000lb between them.

Man v Fat Football was set up in January last year and already has 25 leagues up and running and many more planned across the country.

The men play in a 30-minute match every week, with a weigh-in and tips from coaches before the kick-off.

Teams and the players get bonus goals for weight lost.

Project manager Terry Dowding said: “It clicks for the male psyche, it puts a competi- tive edge on it.” Anybody with a BMI of 27.5 or above can register. Player Doug Curtis, of Barnet, North London, has lost 5st in 18 months. He said: “I was borderline diabetic, with high blood pressure. The other guys in my team are really great. There’s a lot of banter between us. “You turn up once a week, play part of a 30-minute game and look after yourself all week.” Terry said: “We aspire next year to have Man v Fat Football available any night of the week, in any area of the UK.”
