YOUR SHOUT

This week: Diminishing loo paper and too much plastic! Fiona, like you, I get infuriated with the way plastic contaminates our planet. I’ve tried to reduce my consumption by going back to using bars of soap instead of liquid soap in plastic bottles, and buying my fruit, vegetables etc from local shops. This may not be easy for everyone to do but we all need to think about ways of reducing our plastic waste. I applaud you for bringing it to people’s attention. Helen Morgan, via e-mail

Fiona, I had to smile about your loo roll comments. I too had two sons who seemed to eat toilet roll. One minute it was there, the next it had disappeared. But my funniest incident was when I worked at a local Co-op. One day the manager was moaning about the amount of loo roll us ladies used. So, unbeknown to us, he actually cut a loo-roll in half and said that was all we could have from now on. We laugh about it to this day. Anita, Sleaford, Lincolnshire

Fiona, Your poor lads might not be the loo-roll culprits; I’ve noticed that the cardboard tubes in the centre of the rolls have increased in size, so we appear to be buying the same rolls, but are actually getting less paper. Matt Mills, Torbay

Fiona, a quick tip to save loo roll: try squashing the roll/ cardboard so it doesn’t spin so easily. It slows down the un-rolling and makes users more aware of how much they’re using. Dianne Merrett via e-mail FP: Genius, Dianne!
