130,000 call for register to fight stalking terror

- BY JEREMY ARMSTRONG jeremy.armstrong@mirror.co.uk

A STALKERS’ register to keep track of dangerous offenders has been backed by more than 130,000 people.

The national database will help save lives, campaigners say.

The petition supporting the Mirror campaign to set up the register will be debated tomorrow in the House of Lords.

Laura Richards, founder of the Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service that drew up the petition, will take it to No10 this week. She will be accompanied by Zoe Dronfield, who survived a meat cleaver attack in Coventry by serial stalker Jason Smith, 34, in 2013. Also joining them will be John Clough, whose daughter Jane was stalked and murdered in Blackpool in 2010 by her ex Jonathan Vass. Vass had been freed on bail after Jane accused him of rape, and stabbed her to death after tracking her movements on Facebook. Laura said: “A system exists for perpetrators of violence under the Multi Agency Public Protection regime and these people should be included in that. “It will save lives; it will save time as police target the right people; and it will save money as it prevents more serious crimes. It will stop stalkers killing.” Sign the petition at: paladinservice.co.uk/serial-perpetratorregister-and-order
