BoJo ‘backed Leave to spite rival Cameron’

-

GAMBLE Cam called referendum BORIS Johnson backed Brexit to spite his Old Etonian rival David Cameron, it was claimed yesterday. The then London Mayor asked Labour peer Lord Adonis what he thought of quitting the EU four months before the vote and was told: “Obviously, the right thing to do is to lead in Europe.”

But Mr Johnson allegedly replied: “Yes but I’m not sure I can bear the thought of backing Cameron.”

Brexit talks resume in Brussels today, while Mrs May is due to update MPs on progress following her Florence speech last month.

EU leaders meet next Thursday for a showdown where they are set to delay trade talks until after December’s summit. Ministers have already begun planning for crashing out of the bloc without a deal.
