DAN SCORES THE MOTHER OF ALL GOALS

Humble Hurst: Unbeaten run is all down to my players

PEP, Jose, Hurst. The holy trinity of unbeaten managers in English football’s top six leagues trips off the tongue.

SCUNTHORPE WIGAN 1 2 DAN BURN knew his goal was a beaut when he heard his mum scream in delight.

The defender turned with a strike straight out of the top drawer to put Wigan on their way to a sixth win in their last seven outings.

And the 25-year-old revealed: “It’s the first time my mum has seen me score as a professional.” Burn (right) scored a stunning opener, only his second strike in more than 50 outings for the high-flying Latics, who aim to bounce back into the Championship after relegation last season.

Wigan had to do it the hard way after Lee Evans was red-carded in the 56th minute for a clash with Scunthorpe star Funso Ojo, who went on to score a lastgoalpoacher gasp consolation goal. By then, it was all over for Scunthorpe after Rory McArdle failed to cut out a long punt upfield, leaving class act Nick Powell free to hammer home.

Belgian midfielder Ojo said: “Wigan are a really good side and I think they will go up.” PLYMOUTH FLEETWOOD

ROCHDALE ROTHERHAM 1 2 JORDY HIWULA says the Manchester City old boy connection can fire Town up the table.

Hiwula, who teamed up with fellow City Academy product Devante Cole, scored the opener for Fleetwood, managed by former Blues star Uwe Rosler. Hiwula said: “Devante and I have know each other a long time and feed off one another.” Amari Bell netted the goal that turned out to be the winner, with Alex Fletcher replying late on for Argyle, who have gone 10 league games without a win. SCOTT WOOTTON praised Dons fans for not turning on the players in this mauling.

Aaron Tshibola’s fifthminute red card meant it was always going to be an uphill battle for Robbie Neilson’s side.

And the Bantams took full advantage, with goals from Romain Vincelot and Paul Taylor, either side of Charlie Wyke’s double. Ethan Ebanks-Landell scored for the hosts.

Defender Wootton said of the supporters: “They stuck with us and we appreciate that.”

City boss Stuart McCall said: “We could have scored more.”

0 1 RICHARD WOOD has predicted more success from set-pieces after heading Millers to victory.

The defender, 32, nodded home from a corner to sink Dale.

He said: “We are big strong lads who all want to attack the ball. It’s paying dividends because we’ve scored a few from set-pieces.”

Dale boss Keith Hill was annoyed his players were wasteful from similar situations.

He said: “In the last five minutes we had two corners and two free headers and yet we failed to punish our opponents.”
