THE PLOT THICKENS

THE BBC hopes to blow away viewers on Saturday nights with Gunpowder.

Kit Harington and Liv Tyler star in the three-parter on the Guy Fawkes plot.

Harington plays Robert Catesby, mastermind of the 1605 bid to blow up Parliament. He says: “Guy was the tip of the iceberg. So little is known about the lead up to the night of November 5.

“We’re trying to tell it from the plotters’ perspective too, to understand what pushes people to horrific violence.”

Tyler is Catesby’s cousin Ann Vaux. And Downton’s Tom Cullen plays Fawkes in the series, which starts on October 21.
