‘FAN FEST’ AREAS AIM TO UNITE

- BY JOHN CROSS

BOOZED-UP fans have been warned about their behaviour ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Russian authorities insist they will not ban drinking alcohol but are setting up “fan fest” zones to try to keep the supporters together.

Andrey Zakharov, the Deputy Chief of Moscow’s Police Department, said: “We have certain regulations regarding public order.

“During the World Cup, we will have a few ‘fan fest’ areas, designated for people to come together, drink some beer and enjoy football.

“Generally, I don’t expect any problems. We have enough police officers to deploy.

“It’s not like we’re going to put someone on a plane home for drinking a bit too much. However we respond, it will always be polite and respectful.”
