HARRY’S GOT A FOOT IN THE D’OR

- BY JOHN CROSS and DARREN LEWIS

HARRY KANE’S dream season hit new heights last night as he was nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. Red-hot Kane (left) struck the winner for England against Lithuania on Sunday after doing the same

to beat Slovenia on Thursday. Those exploits have made him the first player to score on each of the four occasions he has captained his country. The striker, 24, has already hit 11 goals for Tottenham this term after clinching his second successive Premier League Golden Boot award last season. Only Lionel Messi (above) has scored more goals in the current calendar year than Kane’s 43 in 37 appearances for club and country. Now Kane has achieved another of his ambitions, making it on to the shortlist for the coveted prize awarded to the best player in the world – alongside the likes of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recently branded Spurs “the Harry Kane team” and now Gareth Southgate has confessed that England are going the same way.

The Three Lions chief warned his other strikers they need to start scoring as his side have become too reliant on Kane – who has netted seven of their last 12 goals.

He said: “It’s fantastic if we have a centre-forward like Harry, but what if we don’t have him for a game?

“We have to get goals from other areas. What’s important is that the likes of Rashford, Alli, Sterling and Lallana can also provide those goals.”
