Hiding to nothing?

-

CELEBRITY HUNTED C4, 9.15pm

THIS tense reality show returns with a celebrity special for Stand Up To Cancer to see if some famous faces can go off-grid and escape capture.

Tricky if you are a household name in one of the most fameobsessed countries in the world.

“I cannot bear the thought of someone chasing me,” says broadcaster Anneka Rice.

Did her agent not explain the premise of the show? She’s escaping alone, while the other six are in pairs – Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews of Made in Chelsea fame, The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness and Siva Kaneswaran, plus Steph and Dom Parker from Gogglebox.

There are others who spring to mind, who we would have happily sent on the run (Katie Hopkins perhaps?), but here we are.

And as they begin, I know who my money’s on – she just needs her Challenge Anneka jumpsuit. Meanwhile, Steph and Dom saunter along with their posh wheelie suitcases – displaying absolutely no sense of urgency as an elite team of trackers (headed by ex-Scotland Yard chief Peter Bleksley) get to work.

The team has 14 days to find the celebs, but at this rate it might be over within an hour.

The idea is to see if the famous can really disappear. But do they really want to? From some of the displays of attention-seeking here, it’s doubtful.

Steph and Dom jump into a chauffeur-driven vintage car and wave at passers-by. Jay and Siva plan to use their army of fans as a smokescreen, while Jamie and Spencer make use of their boats and helicopters. Anneka, meanwhile, intends to be whisked away by John Illsley from Dire Straits!

This doesn’t sound very low-key to us... but it’s entertaining and all for a good cause.
