Stalkers’ register plea to No10
CAMPAIGNERS yesterday took their fight for a national register of stalkers to No 10.
They delivered a petition with 133,000 names calling on Theresa May to act.
Victims believe the Mirror-backed Stalkers’ Register, similar to the Sex Offenders’ Register, could prevent deaths.
Laura Richards, founder of the Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service, which launched the campaign, said: “Handing this petition to No10 is about ensuring the Government understands this will save lives.” Zoe Dronfield, 41, who was attacked by serial stalker ex Jason Smith, 31, added: “I wouldn’t have continued in a relationship with him if this [register] had been in place. We probably wouldn’t even have met.”
John Clough’s daughter Jane, 26, was killed by her ex-boyfriend in Blackpool while he was on bail for her rape. The 57-year-old said: “The impact this register would have on victims of serial offenders is enormous.”
